The Benefits of Outdoor Learning The benefits of outdoor and residential education are widely recognised and can contribute greatly to developing the talents and unlocking the potential of every young person. Our aim at Active is that a young person’s experience of the outdoors leaves them inspired with great memories, new friends, a strong sense of achievement and a deepening appreciation of their environment.
‘We believe that every young person should experience the real world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability, or circumstances’.Part of the Vision statement of the Learning Outside the Classroom manifesto
Why go outside? When you step outside the classroom you have the opportunity to transform learning and raise achievement. Learning outside the classroom allows participants to learn in context, to learn by practical engagement, and to learn by personal discovery. They can master new skills, work collaboratively with others and develop a better sense of themselves and their potential. As well as the physical and educational benefits, outdoor activities can positively influence a young person’s self confidence and self esteem and can contribute greatly to a young person’s development.
