SKIING IN SCOTLAND

Get active this winter, join us on the slopes for a great skiing or snowboarding experience. The winter of 2010 was one of the best in decades.  Scotland is a great place to learn to ski and hone your skills.

The mountains usually have great snow conditions in February through early April although there has been extensive dumps of snow in December and January in recent years with skiing continuing until the end of May. During the season active run day trips and courses and ski holidays. The Scottish ski centres continue to develop their facilities and provide a great way to learn and develop your skills before perhaps heading off to the Alps or America. Active offer a range of skiing and boarding packages including day trips
with skiing at Cairngorm, Nevis Range and The Lecht
We have courses and holidays to suit beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders.
Active also run Ski leader and Snowboard Leader Courses in Scotland and the Alps.

Packages also available with lift passes included

The three key elements of an Alpine Ski Leader course are:
• Leadership (which is not the same as leading)
• Technical skiing
• Teaching

Candidates are assessed in all three areas. The Teaching element includes the use of Mosston’s Teaching styles and the Central Theme. Leadership includes the use of the Action Centred Leadership model and Technical skiing requires candidates to be at an appropriate level to demonstrate the Central Theme effectively.

Snowsport Scotland's current members holding the Alpine Ski Leader qualification as described above are qualified, licensed and insured worldwide (civil liability & professional indemnity to £5million) to operate in this environment.

The ASL is qualified to instruct their own groups within the remit of their qualification: for an ASL this is from beginner up to basic parallel standard, within the boundaries of the resort but not off-piste. ASL’s are advised to make arrangements in advance with the local ski school regarding their intentions, in order to establish and maintain good relations. The Scottish ASL award should not be confused with the English version that does not include any teaching or instructing.

The ASL is not qualified to set up in business in a resort, competing for business from local instructors.
